Bennington County Vermont produces an awesome variety of delicious foods. We have great cheese, bread, meats, vegetables, fruits, and prepared foods. This website is your resource to buying locally. See the pages on markets, farms, and pages on how to find individual types of foods.
Each year, we offer workshops at farms and kitchens around the county. We also challenge you to take a week and eat locally. The rules are simple - eat foods produced within 100 miles or within Vermont. You have 5 wild cards per day to allow for foods like coffee and olive oil - and things you just can't do without. You can use all the leavenings and spices that you wish, from throughout the world. See the rules page and take the pledge!
Sponsors for 2008 Challenge:
Northshire Bookstore, Hildene, Vermont Department of Agriculture, Manchester Journal and Bennington Banner, and Manchester and the Mountains Chamber of Commerce
and Seth and Fiona say they'll be raising more chickens, pork, and possibly turkeys this year!
It is never too early to plan ahead. Plans for 2009 are coming along.
