Southwestern Vermont

Eat Local Challenge

Welcome to the Southwestern Vermont Eat Local Challenge 2008 Website.

We built this website to keep you up to date on where to buy local foods. Check out the links on the top of the page for sources of specific types of foods...or, click on the links to the left for information about local markets, workshops, and events.

The challenge is from Sept 15-22, 2008. We ask folks to eat foods grown or produced within 100 miles or within the state of Vermont. There are 5 wildcards a day to accomodate coffee, chocolate, and avocado urges. Eat locally - but spice and leaven globally - to paraphrase Bill McKibben. You can have spices or leavenings from anywhere in the world, in other words. That's it - those are the rules. Take the pledge by emailing localvore at comcast dot net.
